1965 Lotus Seven
FOR SALE: $40,000 or nearest offer

Craig Chima: I did a ground up restoration on SB2078 6 years ago and it has been driven only about 100 miles since that time. It was my 9th full restoration of a Lotus 7 and the car is probably the best one I have ever done. It is now part of the collection of my good friend Rob Shriver. The odometer currently shows 49,741 miles, a figure believed to be accurate.
The car is located in Akron, Ohio and the asking price is $40,000 or near offer.
I originally acquired the car from former Lotus USA Club President Tony Vaccaro. At that time it was a running and driving car that had been used frequently (and was showing its age) since it was restored by DSK cars for Bob Vogel in 1980. The car was shown on the original SimpleSevens website years ago when David Kaplan himself commented on his work: SB2078 under Bob Vogel's ownership. (This page will open in a new window - close that window to return to this page).
Rob was looking for a pristine, documented example of an original S2 Lotus 7 for his collection and this car was the perfect choice.
I did all of the restoration work except for the paint which Rob handled directly (at one of his Maaco franchises) - - the paint quality is exceptional. Photos are of the car during restoration, and now that it has been completed.
From a mechanical standpoint, the 1500 Pre Crossflow motor was rebuilt and it has the original Weber 40DCOE carbs. I also rebuilt the close ratio Ford 3 rail transmission and Triumph rear end assembly. This is a car that will provide years of trouble-free enjoyment for the new owner.
From a cosmetic standpoint I replaced many of the original aluminum panels, and all of the suspension components were either powdercoated or re-plated, with new bushings installed. The car features Spax adjustable shocks and a new, original-style Springall steering wheel. This car is likely as fine an example of an original S2 Lotus 7 as you will find.
